History

ALBA THYMENT Sp. z o.o. is one of the oldest Polish pharmaceutical companies, and probably the only family business sector that returned to the Polish market in 1992 after revolve of the history. The company was founded by a pharmacist Stanisław Bukowiecki in 1913 in Poznan.

Laboratory produced many wanted products. Founder of the laboratory was probably the most famous creator of the company's drug, called ARGOL®, with full composition of the Essence of the Carmelite, the famous 400 - year old drug, made by Carmelite monks.

Laboratory worked under German annexation, but only the creation of a free Polish state after World War I has created good conditions for business development. After the war, German President Hindenburg urged Poles who found themselves in the German territories to choose their homeland. The young Polish chemist, Mieczyslaw Rychlicki has just completed his studies in Berlin and as a patriot opted to return to their homeland. Around 1918 -1919 r returned to the family of Poznan and found employment in the Bukowiecki laboratory.

Shortly after the owner's death in 1921, Mieczyslaw took over management of the company in 1932 and bought the rights to the Laboratory. Further work continued in its own, already called ALBA, company producing more than 30 pharmaceutical products, veterinary, cosmetics and chemicals. Medicines and cosmetics products were known throughout all along pre-war Poland.

The most famous company's drug was ARGOL® - the true essence of Carmelite. ARGOL® was known and respected in Poland as well as exported to Germany and the Netherlands. That drug was in almost every home as a primary cure for various ailments of everyday life, especially as a panacea for all infections. Quality and richer composition surpassed competing modes of German already in the interwar period attempted to enter the Polish pharmaceutical market.

The company has developed very well, but fate changed the course of history: World War II broke out. Shortly after the Nazis invaded Poznan, Polish owner was forced to transfer the company to the occupiers, and so the company went to Richard Rasche. Mieczyslaw Rychlicki only managed to save recipes, and small quantities of their drugs.

During World War II the company produced products for use by the occupant. The war was nearing its end when the Soviet troops entered Poznan and during the liberation partially destroyed company’s buildings. Immediately after the cessation of hostilities owner began to rebuild. In 1948, 52 year old Mieczyslaw approved log construction and set to work. Shortly, however, the communist government took away private company the right to life, expropriate and allocating houses to the production of door locks. The company produced their products until 1953 and then was closed. Pharmacies was selling ALBA’S drugs still until 1956 and then remain only in memory of patients as "miraculous" drugs.

In 1987 Katarzyna, daughter in law, specializing in pharmaceutical technology has opened a THYMENT laboratory in Italy, producing ARGOL® Essenza Balsamica for the Italian market. In 1989 Katarzyna was invited by the Italian Chamber of Commerce to represent their achievements in the exhibition "Lombardia produce" at the Palace of Culture in Warsaw and there ARGOL® became interested in the Polish merchants.

In 1989 ARGOL® appeared again in Polish pharmacies. However, Katarzyna and her husband Rajmund wanted to make the Polish deserved drug again in his homeland and in 1992 the company moved to Poznan.

And so ALBA THYMENT was created.
